Village of Alquéza
Between deep ravines of the Sierra de Guara, patiently excavated by the waters of the river Vero, one sees the Collegiate Castle of Santa Maria la Mayor and at its feet the medieval manor house of the monumental village of Alquézar which has been declared as a whole of historic and artistic importance.
Rock, water, history, art and legend blend together in Alquézar, forming a surprising, unique and unexpected world, in which it is possible to turn back time while one wanders through its narrow streets, passing through the doors in its walls and listening to old stories about the Moors and Christians...
The village of Alquézar is located in the final stretch of the canyon of the river Vero in an impressive setting which offers multiple
alternatives to the lovers of nature and adventure sports, potholing, climbing, trekking on horseback or on bicycle...
Apart from practising the descent of the ravines one can take numerous hill trekking routes. Among them one can name one such route which leaves the Monchirigüel spring descends through the ravine of the spring and follows the ultimate section of the majestic canyon of the Vero;
by following the well prepared path it is possible to discover pools, dams, mills and bridges which go to show the how intensive was the use of water from the river Vero as it passed through Alquézar from the middle ages.
From Alquézar one can also visit the cave paintings at Quizans and Chimiachas.
